Lisbon chosen the “Best City or Short Break Destination” in 2016 by Travel Media Awards
The capital of Portugal is a frequent guest in top rankings of best travel destinations in Europe. Recently, one more title has been added to its collection of prizes, as the Travel Media Awards have appointed Lisbon as the “Best City or Short Break Destination”.
Lisboa has been distinguished among many other European cities thanks to the great variety – density to say so – of attractions, easily accessible even during a short stay.
Apart from a superb choice of museums and historic landmarks, as well as more mundane attractions, the Portuguese capital offers a great selections of excellent beaches within a short drive from the centre (in the Cascais/Estoril suburbs), becoming a perfect combined city and beach destination. The mild Mediterranean climate makes it a versatile year round holiday, with a variety of attractions in every season.
A wide range of hotels and other accommodation solutions, superb gastronomy and innovative character of tourist services made available for tourists in Lisbon also weighted heavily on the decisions of the voters.

Travel Media Awards are granted by TravelMedia.ie, a Dublin-based public relations company specialising in travel industry. 2016 is the sixth consecutive year when the awards are handed in; this year’s gala took place on the 20th of May, in the Westbury Hotel, in Dublin.
The awards contemplated 26 categories covering a very wide range of services possibly sought after in the leisure and business travel universe.
Apart from the “Best City or Short Break Destination”, amongst the awarded categories were: “Best Airport Hotel”, “Best Non-Hotel Accommodation”, “Best Hotel Search Engine”, “Best Car Hire Company”, “Best New Irish Travel Blog” and “Travel Photo of the Year”, just to mention a few.
