The Pavilhao de Conhecimento is an excellent place for kids to learn and have fun! And with the new dinosaur exhibition (2013), it has been attracting even more fact-thirsty kids and adults!
Besides, the Pavilhao also has an open work shop plus, the “Un-Finished House”, which lets kids experiment with the work of a builder.

The main Conhecimento/Science room – lots of fun for kids
The Lisbon Science Pavilhão of Expo is very good for people who want to see something different. It’s a place that both adults and children love! Quite often grown-ups find it surprisingly interesting.
In the science room you can see astonishing devices with cutting-edge technology and incredible multimedia for kids and adults to use.
The Knowledge Pavilion has been around since 1999 and was built for the World Exhibit of Lisbon (Expo’98).

Experiments with steam, sound and light
Amongst the various permanent installations in the science room are:
- vibrating waves (stop a wave – and have a wave go through you)
- vision (how do our eyes work + optic illusions)
- steam experiment (how a tornado is formed)
- light experiment (prisms, lenses etc.)
In total, some 40 interactive experiments are available including a toy car with square wheels, a high riding bike (yes, you can try) and a bed of nails (which kids can lie on with no problems).
The Lisbon Science Pavilion shop – gifts for all ages
Parents bring money! The Pavilhao de Conhecimento has a whole range of gifts down from a simple chemistry set to a potato powered clock!

The gift shop is fairly big and contains interesting gift items – all the usual T-shirts and plastic items are there plus a good selection of the more interesting science stuff like a chemistry set, a potato-clock, a bubble-clock or maybe an orange clock.
How to find the Science Pavilion Lisbon in Expo (Nations Park)
The Lisbon-Oriente train station and the Vasco da Gama shopping center (includes a McDonalds for kids- and wallet-friendly dining) are next door neighbours to the Pavilhão Conhecimento.
The whole complex is a well-known Lisbon location in the North-western part of the city. In the Expo area, you will also find the famous Lisbon Aquarium.
If by car, drive towards the Vasco da Gama Bridge (direction to the airport) and take one of the last exits before the bridge towards Parque das Nações (Nations Park – also referred to as Expo-area).
Lots of parking is found underground and if outside tourist season, it should be possible to find street parking too.
