Guerin – also known as Guerin Car Rental Solutions Lda, is quite a well known car hire company in Portugal.
Guerin car rental background
The founder of Guerin was the late (1926-2011) Salvador Caetano.
Being an old school entrepreneur, Mr. Caetano was widely respected and was one of the most successful post-revolution businessmen in Portugal.
Caetano built his fortune from the ground up through a vast number of companies, but the importership established in 1968 of Toyota cars was the foundation.
In 1971, Caetano expanded the Toyota partnership with a light truck and van assembly plant in Ovar in the district of Aveiro north-vest of Lisbon. Later on, Caetano Group went on to make its own small minibuses, airport buses and urban buses; the latter of which are being sold in Britain.
All Toyota outlets in Portugal still bear the founders family name as do many other non-Toyota dealerships.
Previously (1983-2004), Caetano Group was the official BMW importer in Portugal. The company still have a number of BMW, Mini and BMW motorcycle dealerships under the name of Caetano Baviera and a few Mercedes dealerships under the Caetano Star brand.
The Guerin hire car operation was founded in 1989 and is based on the Caetano Group’s success within the automotive business in Portugal.
The Caetano Group also has a share in the Pepe Rent-a-car company in Spain.
